I'm starving!

Is it possible that adding a bit of walking to my daily routine is making me hungry?

I've been starving all day today and I've actually eaten the same amount during the day that I had been. As of Saturday, I've become a walker. I walked 2.45 miles Saturday, six-tenths of a mile Sunday and 1.2 miles this morning. That doesn't seem like that much, so why am I so hungry?

In seven months of following Weight Watchers, I can't recall a day where I was this hungry. I don't want to increase my food intake because the point is to lose weight. So I'm giving it another day. If I'm still starving tomorrow, I'm going to rethink when I eat. For example, it's possible that I just need to eat more earlier in the day. Or maybe I just need to eat something different, more filling, earlier in the day.

Any suggestions?

  1. I recommend using your Weight Watcher activity points. That's what they're there for; you will still lose weight.

I love eating a banana before I exercise b/c it gives me such energy. Then, for breakfast, something with fiber and/or protein that will fill you up. I'm a big fan of oatmeal. Or Egg Beaters/cheese on an English muffin. Oh, and lots of water. Your body will want it even more now.

You're doing great; beyond great. And P.S. You are MORE than ready to walk the Battleship 5K. And the thrill you'll get from it will only propel you to set more goals and try new things. I can't recommend it enough. It's the race that got me interested in being more active (I went to cheer Sam Scott on years and years ago). You have to remember that "race" doesn't mean "run." Most of these races are for walkers, too. And to participate in such a thing with all your co-workers will only make it more special.

  2. Diana, thanks for the advice. I actually ate something more substantial this morning after my walk and I felt much better. Of course, I could always eat more, but I didn't feel like I was starving all day. As for the Battleship 5K, I will probably do it. I just need to prove to myself first that I can without passing out. And, trust me, I will not be running. Walking is hard enough right now. But I do think I've caught the bug and after just four days, I find that I'm looking forward to it each morning. Honestly, I have you to thank for that and so many other things. As always, I appreciate the encouragement and inspiration.

  3. If you can walk 1.2 miles now, and let's not forget the more than two miles YOUR FIRST DAY, think about three months from now! You are more than ready and I couldn't be prouder. You've had it inside you all along. Like Dorothy.
